How Your Book Donations Will Be Used

Into the hands of a child through EW!DC’s Book Distributions.

One of Everybody Wins! DC’s (EW!DC's) primary goals is to encourage children’s interest in reading and to cultivate enthusiasm for books. Providing our students with a variety of quality books for them to take home and enjoy is one of the first steps towards that goal. The books we distribute are often the first and only books in the child’s personal library and in the child’s home.

Nationwide, 61% of low-income families have no children’s books at all in their homes. Your donation of a book will guarantee low-income, underserved youth in the Washington Metropolitan Area the means to build and continue their personal libraries. In a city with such an appalling literacy rate, the impact of putting books into homes will reach a far wider audience than just the students in our programs. Enabling students to bring home their love of reading, to share it with family members, especially younger siblings, significantly extends the reach of our successful programs.

Into the mind of a child through EW!DC’s Book Carts.

At each of our Power Lunch schools, we offer students a large variety of books that they can enjoy with their reading partners over the lunch hour. These books include picture books, beginner, emergent and advanced level books, non-fiction books, bilingual books for our many Spanish-speaking students, STEM books, books of poetry and reference works, such as dictionaries, and atlases.

Testimonials
"Seeing her become more confident and her love of reading increase has been such a joy to watch."
"It's mostly fun to read and watch her become such a confident reader and learn to love reading as much as I do. She is one of my best friends."
"When an adult helps a child, it tells that child how special they are. We send a message to the child- you are important to me- that is powerful and undeniable."
"It's a fantastic program, and I think the mentors get as much, if not more, than the student. You meet wonderful kids and have lots of fun."
"When I read, I learn and grow-- you know, like Jack and the Beanstalk kind of growing and that's really big!"
"I wish Everybody Wins was everyday!"
